Name: Basket Stinkhorn (Dictyophora multicolor)

Classification: Fungi > Basidiomycota > Agaricomycetes > Phallales > Phallaceae > Dictyophora multicolor

Description: True to its name, the Basket Stinkhorn looks like a horn in a basket, and stinks like rotting meat. The basket is a net-like structure called the insidium that hangs down from the cap. The odour comes from the mucilaginous mass of mature spores on the cap, and attracts flies to feed. Spores stick onto the flies, which help with dispersal.
