Where’s the problem?

The Cross Island Line (CRL), which will connect Tampines and Jurong, is depicted to pass beneath a 1 km stretch of forest near MacRitchie Reservoir. This passage through the Central Catchment Nature Reserve (CCNR) begins at the Singapore Island Country Club (Bukit Location) in the west to near Venus Drive in the east. It passes through some of the most pristine ecosystems in Singapore, including old regrowth forest, two primary forest patches and four natural stream systems.

This does not have to be. Alternatives are available, as recommended by the Nature Society of Singapore (NSS) in its Discussion and Position Paper. It is possible for the CRL to be aligned such that it passes around the Nature Reserve instead.  Alternative_Routes
